If you have read The Great Gatsby, you'll probably agree it's a memorable book. It is a book with a life of its own. I passed an Asian hairdressers recently, and on his TV screen was the title,The Great Gatsby - with a picture of the debonair Amitabh Bachchan. I have seen two or three versions of this great book, yet it almost seems it can be made and re-made in different genres and locales. As I say, Scott Fitzgerald's book has a life of its own - it is universal, the characters could be Chinese or Indian or African, upper-class, middle-class, lower-class. It could be set in a very ordinary suburban corner, or the most salubrious mansion on Acacia Avenue. - The Great Gatsby does scaling exercises, study, etc, to a programme each day. People liked my last piece about the notebook, so I remembered the above. Duru-darshan. |
