Mikhail Prokhorov, owner of the New Jersey Nets in America, and self-made multi-billionaire, is an inspiring example of positive thinking and self-development. I watched a CNBC programme about him sometime ago. It told the story of how, 20 years ago, Mikhail lived in a two-bed council flat with his sister and Mother in Moscow. That flat today is like a museum for him, of his ordinary but inspiring beginnings : there he has an old tape-recorder that plays cassettes in a monologue. In that machine, Mikhail used to play motivational tapes, some from America, some with the unique somno-dynamic techniques of the Russian school.
On the tape-player he had cellotaped an inspirational quote, something like Napoleon Hill's words : The mind of man can achieve what he can conceive and believe.
(Some author has suggested that this should be repeated fifty times each morning and evening for as long as is necessary...)
If a man can rise so high, there must be great value in what he has learned.
