There is some logic in what the Protest for Fuel people were saying. If the fuel duty is lower, it will indeed save or even create some jobs in the trucking and haulage businesses. High fuel bills means having to operate on very tight budgets, surely demoralising in jobs which demand so much continous concentration on long distances, working to tight deadlines. These hard-working people need some relief. Sixty-six percent fuel duty in UK is one of the highest in the world. In a low-interest rate environment, perhaps tweaking with the price/fuel duty component will help to stimulate the economy, reducing pressure on drivers, hopefully creating or at least securing jobs in the trucking and haulage industry as people in the industry have stated. Sympathetic consideration on this issue by the Chancellor will bring much needed cheer. Kind regards, Durudarshan |
