Wish you a Happy Easter.
It was not surprising that Aung Sang Suu Kyi and her party won an overwhelming majority of seats. When she gave her victory speech, grown man were seen with tears streaming down their eyes, in reverence, in awe, as fear evaporated from the nation with the new-found confidence of the Nobel Laureate who should have been the Myanmar Prime Minister twenty years ago. Aung Sang Suu Kyi has the golden spirit of forgiveness, and the wider population refers to her as 'the Lady'. That she is, and this noble, smiling lady represents all the dreams of her nation.
In 2008, after the tsunami when there were countless bodies laying around to be classified and given last rites, the international community offered to help. The ruling Generals were a little bit hesitant. Then they realized it was a genuine offer of help, and they opened the doors for people to come in from the international community and help them. That was a turning point for Burma, for the Generals who have been brought up in the Buddhist tradition, have love and grace at their heart. The circumstances of their burden of debt (which they incurred after buying vans, armoured vehicles and jeeps in the 1960s) have left this peaceful nation in a situation of having to impose a military rule.
It is good news that the U.S. and E.U. will be relaxing sanctions against Myanmar.
A greater day will be for Burma when the Generals offer their aegis, and support the Lady to become their Prime Minister, with their full support. I believe the goodwill that exists for Burma will be multiplied, and this great Buddhist nation will develop and prosper further, with a huge increase in tourism.
