People must be at their wit's end in Syria, as observers are around the world, as to how the situation has got from bad to worse with violence escalating on such a scale that the U.N. forces are being pulled out.
Isn't it time for President Assad and his regime to sit down and think things through, and own up to whether they can implement the Annan Plan or not? They should be honest whether they have actually tried, or whether they are just attempting to hold onto power no-matter-what. The privilege of leadership is for the betterment and good governance of the people, not for getting the army to overstep their mandate of protection and repressing people within the country. If it is really some rogue units causing the mayhem, then the President must ask all his other troops be ordered back to the barracks while a peace can be re-negotiated. It is a sad state for things to deteriorate to such an extent that the whole world is aghast at the helplessness of the situation.
Through this column, I would plead with Mr Assad and the opposing side(s) to give peace a chance, and not allow any further escalation of the warfare. It seems like a very bad situation, and hopefully prayers for Peace and conciliation between the brethern of the same faith though they be Shia or Sunni, and a love for themselves and the well-being of their families and their country, can persuade all sides to stop the fighting. Just seeing the images on TV causes horror and dread; how much more horrific it is for the people in Syria in the midst of it all?
All those who help bring peace, truely earn Allah's blessings.
May God's blessings be upon all the people of Syria.
